When you apply for a new visa or renew your passport in the UAE, you need a medical check-up to ensure you are healthy. These tests ensure that people are healthy enough to live and work in the country. But it’s essential to know that people under 18 don’t have to take the medical fitness test. Foreigners living in the UAE need to have medical tests at a specific health center in order to get or renew their visa. Both guys and gals need to pass these tests.
If you want to get a visit visa or tourist visa, or renew one, you don’t need to take a medical test. The regular medical test looks for diseases that can spread from person to person like hepatitis, HIV, leprosy, syphilis, and tuberculosis. This helps keep people in the UAE healthy.
The required Medical Fitness Test for a UAE residence Visa
People who have HIV or tuberculosis will not be given a residence visa because they are not considered healthy. The authorities in the UAE will send them back to their home country. People with inactive tuberculosis in their lungs are also considered healthy.

- For a medical examination at the Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap) Preventive Medicine Departments, a service charge AED 105 is charged
- For a medical examination at centres for shopping malls, service charge AED 110 including VAT is charged

Required Tests To Perform
Here are the usual tests that need to be taken before getting your UAE residence visa stamped:
- Leprosy
- Chest X-ray
- Blood test
- Tuberculosis
- HIV / Aids
- Hepatitis A, B, and C are very serious diseases that can make people very sick. This is especially important for people who take care of kids, clean houses, work at hair salons or restaurants, or go to the gym.
- Syphilis can spread to people who work in homes, take care of children, work in nurseries, barber shops, kindergartens, coffee shops, health clubs, food supply centers, restaurants, and other places that serve food.
- Women who work in homes or drive cars for a living must have a negative pregnancy test. If the person is pregnant and the employer knows about it, they should let the government know before giving the person a visa.
All expatriates need to take tests for AIDS/HIV, Leprosy, and Tuberculosis to get a new visa. Some expatriates also need to take tests for Hepatitis, Syphilis, and pregnancy.
Where can I get a Medical Fitness Test done?
To get a medical checkup in the UAE, go to the healthcare office in the Emirate where your visa was issued.
- Dubai has fitness centers for medical purposes managed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).
- Abu Dhabi: Disease Prevention and Screening Centre is part of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA).
- Health Centers in Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain are run by the Ministry of Health and Prevention.
After you apply for your visa, you will need to go to a specific place to get a medical check-up. In Dubai, you go to Amer, and in other Emirates, you go to the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP).
Documents Required
You must submit the following documents to the medical fitness during your medical test procedure:
- Valid Passport Copy.
- Original Passport
- Valid Residence Permit (for new visa) Visa Copy (for visa renewal)
- 2 Passport size photograph with white background.
- A mobile number and email.
- Valid Emirates ID copy (only for renewal of residence visa)
Process of Getting Medical Fitness Test for Residence Visa in UAE
Step 1: Complete the application form.
- Go to a medical fitness typing center that is approved by DHA. You can find the center on the DHA website.
- Click on ‘DHA Facilities’ and then click on ‘Medical Fitness and Occupational Health Screening’.
- Click on ‘DHA Approved Medical Fitness Typing Centres’ under the drop-down menu to find the one nearest to you.
- Complete the form at the typing centre and bring the necessary documents.
Step 2: Pay the money
- Please pay the fee for the medical fitness test. If you want quicker results, you can choose to pay for a premium service.
Step 3: Go to the doctor for a check-up.
- Find a medical fitness test center near you on the DHA website.
- Please bring the finished application form and these documents: your original passport or a clear copy, a copy of your residence permit, your phone number, email address, a clear photo of yourself, and any papers about your change in status (if needed).
- Take the medical test at the clinic.
You will get your medical fitness test result within one day after the test. If you don’t get the certificate in five days, you might have to go back to the medical fitness center. Some people, like nannies, housemaids, and workers in certain jobs, might need to get the Hepatitis B (HBV) vaccine.
